Biraja Temple, Jajpur, Odisha: A Sacred Center of Divine Power

Biraja Temple is a famed Shakti Peetha, believed to be the spot where the navel (nabhi) of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Vishnu cut her body to calm Lord Shiva’s grief. Due to this legend, it is considered a powerful place for worshipping the divine feminine energy. The main deity is Goddess Biraja, a two-armed form of Durga called Mahisamardini, who symbolizes the victory of good over evil by slaying the buffalo demon, Mahishasura.

The complex also houses several subsidiary shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other deities.
